William R. Mitchell, Jr.

William Randle Mitchell passed away peacefully on August 12, 2018 while under the care of Hospice Savannah and after a long illness. He was 83.

Randy was born in Philadelphia. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. He served in the U. S. Navy advancing to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his tour on active duty he served as commanding officer of a minesweeper. Upon discharge he began his   business career at Merck in New York City, Brussels and Rahway, New Jersey. He then joined Wellington Management in Boston as Chief Financial Officer and retired from Amoskeag Company as CEO.

Randy and his wife Kay retired to The Landings on Skidaway Island near Savannah. Randy enjoyed golf for many years. He taught financial courses at institutions of higher learning in the Savannah area. He was a licensed volunteer mediator, civil and domestic cases, in the Georgia Court System through the Mediation Center in Savannah.   Through the years he remained a loyal fan of the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox.

He is survived by Kay, his loving wife for 53 years, their two sons, John (Stephanie) and David (Steve) and five grandchildren, Conor, Mackenzie, Clare, Alyssa and Beckett.

A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
